Harness Racing

Harness racing or trotting gathers Aussie punters track-side in vast numbers. Large amounts of money is also bet with online bookmakers and the TAB of course. In Australia there are close to one hundred harness racing tracks and some two thousand meetings annually. The Inter Dominion Pacing Championship and Trotting Championship, the Miracle Mile, A G Hunter Cup, Chariots of Fire, Victoria Cup, and Australian Pacing Championship and Australian Pacing Gold are the most important harness races.

The three major harness tracks in Australia are the Harold Park Paceway in Sydney, Albion Park in Brisbane and Moonee Valley Racecourse in Melbourne.

Harness racing enjoys worldwide popularity. The most important races include Hambletonian, the Little Brown Jug, and the Breeders Crown all in the U.S. In Canada races include the Gold Cup and the Saucer at Charlottetown Driving Park, North America Cup, and the Canadian Pacing Derby and the Maple Leaf Trot. And in Europe the Prix d’Amérique at Vincennes near Paris is the most prestigious event of the European racing year. Other notable races include the Elitloppet one-mile race in Sweden and the Gran Premio Lotteria di Agnano in Italy.
