Caulfield Cup winner Railings has received a 2 kg penalty for the 2005 Melbourne Cup from Racing Victoria Chief Handicapper Greg Carpenter on Monday. The John Hawkes trained Railings had already earned a 1kg penalty following his win in the Group 1 Metropolitan at Randwick on October 1. Railings has now ensured himself of a Melbourne Cup start with his victory on Saturday. The penalty moves him up from equal 22nd in the order of entry to equal 7th.
