Clarry Conners and Darren Beadman took the Group One T.J. Smith Plate with Apercu, narrowly holding off Tripitz in a dramatic day of racing at Eagle Farm on Monday. Beadman had Apercu (a $7 chance) in fourth place once they settled and grabbed the lead from the well-tried Masked Assassin (a $6 chance) in the 100m but had to withstand a late charge on the inside by Tripitz (a $26 chance), ridden by Brad Stewart, to win by a half neck.
