Efficient has won the 2007 Melbourne Cup, at Flemington racecourse. Only 21 horses started the big race after Gallic, The Fuzz and Maybe Better were all scratched and one of the favourites, Miss Finland was pulled out by her trainer. Mahler made most of the early running alongside with Tungsten Strike, but as the horses came into Flemington's famous straight, a late surge from Efficient edged out the Cup's second favourite Purple Moon.
