Euro 2012 Qualifiers Preview June 3-7

Group A A group that already looks to be over, thanks to the ever so efficient Germany. So far the 1996 European Championship winners have played five and won five, conceding just one goal. Two more wins this week against Austria and Azerbaijan and Joachim Lowe’s side should have one leg in next summer’s tournament. The race to finish second behind them could be more interesting with a point separating Belgium and Turkey, who meet on Friday in Brussels. Kazakhstan’s meeting with Azerbaijan...

Euro 2012 Qualifiers : Matchday 29 March 2011

No games for four months and then some countries have to play twice in three days? Another example of great thinking from the men running the game there. Well done, lads! And it isn't great news for punters either, as injuries, tiredness and squad rotation could all play factors in these games. Group A : Belgium vs Azerbaijan The Belgians have been disappointing in the competition so far and don't look like they are going to qualify. They should still have enough to beat Azerbaijan, if only for...

It's called gambling because you can never be certain that you bets will come in and you can guarantee that at least one random result will scupper your chances. Football is an unpredictable game and any number of factors have to be considered, not least who is sleeping with whose girlfriend, never mind form. So play it safe with a eight fold to cover yourself and I reckon you could take a few bucks off the bookies with this lot. Group A : Germany vs Kazakhstan The Germans top the Group with...

Euro 2012 Qualifiers : Matchday 25 March 2011

The Euro 2012 qualifying action is back after what seems an age and I'm playing it safe by tipping the big boys to come through their games unscathed. We are getting down to the business end of qualification and any slip-ups now could prove disastrously costly, so don't worry about the short odds and play it safe. A nice accumulator could still bring you home the goods. Friday 25th March Group A : Austria vs Belgium Austria have held the Indian sign over Belgium in the past with nine victories...

Euro 2012 Qualifiers : Matchday 17 Nov 2010

The official mascot for Poland/Ukraine Euro 2012 will be revealed this week - and I'll bet that you, like me, didn't even realise that the tournament had one or needs one. Apparently the mascot craze began back in Italy in 1980 with a Pinocchio doll, complete with tricolour nose, and it went steadily downhill after that. Peno at France 84, Berni the rabbit at Germany 88, and a rabbit, called Rabbit, was the frankly uninspired (yet kinky) choice of the Swedish in 92. The English had Goaliath in...

Liechtenstein vs Czech Republic The Czech Republic can start turning the screw on Scotland with a win at tiny Liechtenstein. No-one is expecting anything from the Group's basement side and while the pressure is off them, it is also off the Czech's after their win over the Scots. Tartan boss Craig Levein must be sweating like a welder's jock strap. Prediction: Czech Republic win. Scotland vs Spain The Scottish have one of the lowest life expectancy rates in Europe and it's not just to do with...

Denmark vs Cyprus Denmark just have to keep winning their games and they are putting huge pressure on Group favourites Portugal's qualification hopes. Three points from a potential banana skin in Cyprus has extended their 100 percent record to three games and three more from the return visit would have Ronaldo and his pal's backsides putting like a cheap moped. Prediction: Norway win. Iceland vs Portugal Portugal should breeze past the Group's whipping boys faster than a volcanic ash cloud....

Switzerland vs Wales Welsh caretaker boss Brian Flynn's Euro flops qualification dreams are almost in tatters after their home defeat by Bulgaria. The heat from these Dragon's flames wouldn't cook a cheese toastie - and without that passion, it's hard to see them getting anything from a tricky trip to Switzerland. The game has now become a must-win fixture for Wales, but if top striker Craig Bellamy is still missing it's hard to see where the goals will come from. Prediction: No score draw. England...

Latvia vs Georgia Georgia's 1-0 win over Malta has put them second-top of the Group, level on points with Greece. They will need to take all three from this encounter to keep pace with the other teams at the top in what is turning into a most closely fought table, but I can't see them doing it. Latvia are second-bottom at present, but could just sneak this one. Prediction: Latvia win. Greece vs Israel Croatia went to the top of the Group as they narrowly defeated Israel last week, but the Greeks...
