Webber on pole position in Spain
Mark Webber took P1 in Spanish qualifying! This is Mark's first pole position in 2011 beating teammate Sebastian Vettel by a mere 0.2 seconds. Vettel wasn't too phased that Mark stopped his season long pole position run. Being on the front row was good enough for him as his KERS system broke during qualifying. However it's very difficult to overtake in Barcelona and this is why I believe Mark has an excellent chance to bag this one. Third spot man Lewis Hamilton was a second off Webber and...
Mark Webber fastest in Spain
Red Bull driver Mark Webber was the fastest again in the 2nd Practice session in Barcelona. The Spanish GP 2010 winner set the pace with a blistering lap of 1.22.470 (compare with Vettel's 1.22.826). Lewis Hamilton split the two Red Bulls with a 1.22.509 as McLaren continuously tweaked his car to perfection. Jenson Button was fourth fastest. Fernando Alonso was fifth in front of his home crowd. Mark Webber is a good $3.25 chance >to take the pole, and this offers good value to punters!
Fernando Alonso signs long-term contract with Fe...
Ferrari sent a press release confirming that Fernando Alonso has signed a new contract with the team. Alonso already has a contract till end of 2012, and this new contract is an extension till the end of 2016. Alonso is currently in fifth position in the driver’s championship. This is his second season with Ferrari. The four-year contract from 2012 to 2016 is a surprising one. Long contracts are not very common in Formula 1 but from a driver's point of view it's fantastic. Alonso said...
The last Istanbul F1 Grand Prix
The Turkish Grand Prix that will be raced in Istanbul on 8 May, 2011, will be the last F1 race in the city. The city of Istanbul is no longer interested in hosting the Grand Prix. According to Turkish newspaper reports Bernie Ecclestone wanted to raise the fee to host the race from $13 million to $26 million. This did not go down well with the Turks, and therefore Istanbul will not be in the 2012 F1 calendar. It's likely that the F1 circus will find a replacement to Istanbul and there are reports...
Kimi Raikkonen earns more than Fernando Alonso
Kimi Raikkonen, the 2007 F1 champ, made a bigger salary in 2010 than current Ferrari F1 driver Fernando Alonso. It was Alonso that replaced Raikkonen after the 2009 F1 season. Spanish bank Santander (Alonso's stout backer) agreed to pay Raikkonen's full yearly salary to make way for Alonso to join Ferrari in a three-year deal. Santander have yet to see their investment pay off as the 2010 and 2011 seasons have not produced the result they so badly crave. The 2012 season is Santander's last...
2011 Chinese GP results
You must admit, that was one hell of a race! Thanks to Pirelli, the DRS and KERS this year's F1 is more interesting than ever. It's difficult to pick the star of the race but somehow it just has to go to Mark Webber. From 18th to 3rd is a hell of an achievement. Webber also took the fastest lap of the race at 1.38,993, a second and a half faster than Lewis Hamilton's best lap. So let's hope this was a turnaround race for Webber and we'll be seeing more of him on the podium -- this could be his...
2011 Chinese Grand Prix Preview
It's all about the Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) and the Drag Reduction System (DRS) at the Chinese GP this weekend. The team that has these two working perfectly will stand a good chance at winning. Red Bull go to China as favourites. However Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber had problems with KERS in Malaysia. Even Red Bull technical director Adrian Newey admits that their system is still in its infancy. Since KERS is such a big deal on the long Shanghai straights who can win if not...
2011 Malaysian GP results
Nick Heidfeld "killed the race"! He had a fantastic start, zoomed from 6th to 2nd as he nearly took the lead on the outside through the first couple of corners. Sebastian Vettel was lucky to keep his lead, but Heidfeld was now stuck in between third place man Lewis Hamilton and Vettel - the two that were expected to be racing hard for victory. But we've seen before how difficult it is to pass the black Lotus Renault cars. Fernando Alonso has been stuck behind Petrov twice and now it was Hamilton's...
2011 Malaysian Grand Prix betting tips
Sebastian Vettel grabbed his 17th career pole position after a tightly contested qualifier at the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix. Main rival Lewis Hamilton starts from the 2nd spot losing to Vettel a mere tenth of a second. Mark Webber was 0.3 seconds off the pole and Jenson Button just 0.03 seconds behind Webber. McLaren have definitely closed the gap to Red Bull Racing so it will be very interesting to see how this race unfolds and if McLaren are able to win. It is expected that the teams will make...
2011 Malaysian Grand Prix Preview
There's no doubt that Red Bull will be the team to beat in Malaysia. The team did not use KERS in Melbourne but may have it in Malaysia and that may give them an additional advantage - not that they need it. However the Red Bull team is not going to pull out the hammocks and relax, they are vary of McLaren and Ferrari nipping at their heels. There was a lot of talk about Mark Webber's car and what happened in Melbourne. Webber was fifth well behind his team mate. Apparently they found some strange...
