Mobile software provider Spin3, powered by Microgaming, has announced that its games are now available as Android applications. Android is the operating system behind mobile phones including the Google Nexus One, HTC Desire and Motorola Droid. Spin3 games have been hugely popular on smart phones such as the iPhone.
eMarketer, a popular site for unbiased research and trend analysis on digital marketing and media, estimates that this year, 64 million Americans will play mobile games at least monthly. This number will rise to 94.9 million by 2014. eMarketer’s estimates exclude mobile users who play pre-installed games. Furthermore the composition of the mobile gaming audience will shift further toward smart phones as they increase in penetration across the population. Smart phone gamers now account for 42% of the total. eMarketer expects revenues from mobile gaming to reach nearly $850 million this year, with the vast majority coming from paid downloads. By 2014, mobile gaming revenues will top $1.5 billion.
