Sebastian Vettel took pole position in Montreal where rain is expected for race day.
The Red Bull team did not expect to take pole as their car suits a fast cornered race track rather Montreal’s slow corners. Team boss Christian Horner said “We did not expect to be on pole, so achieving this on our least preferred track was a surprise.” “Fantastic result from Seb”, Horner continued.
Ferrari made a strong team effort to take second and third in the qualifying. Fernando Alonso made the front row for the first time this year and was only 0.185 seconds off the pole position. Alonso said “This is our best qualifying for the season and we are very happy how the weekend has gone so far.” Alonso was confident that he has a chance to win the race.
Mark Webber was fourth with a faulty KERS. Lewis Hamilton fifth and Nico Rosberg sixth, and Jenson Button seventh.
McLaren had their rear wings set to rain conditions to give more downforce despite that it did not rain during qualifying. This meant that they lost about 10kmh in topspeed compared to the top teams. Why McLaren chose this strategy is unknown. But if it rains from the start of the race it could make all the difference.
Race tips:
Fastest Lap: If it rains the fastest lap could easily go to Lewis Hamilton and at $4 it’s a good bet.
Quinella: Sebastian Vettel has a big lead in the championship and he’ll be happy with 3rd. Bet on Ferrari 1-2 and at $10 it’s money for jam.
