Who can forget the drama that unfolded in 2008, and the scandal that followed! Nelson Piquet Jr careered into a wall, causing massive damage at which point the safety car was deployed. Prior to this Massa lead the race with Hamilton second, but at the restart Rosberg was in front and Alonso jumped to fifth. Then Rosberg was given a 10-second stop-go penalty for coming into the pits before it had opened after the Piquet crash. Alonso went on to win the race.
The scandal that followed involved Nelson Piquet Jr and team principal Flavio Briatore. Nelson admitted to crashing by team orders and as a result he will never drive an F1 car again and subsequently Flavio Briatore was rightfully banned from Formula 1. That year Lewis Hamilton went on to win the driver’s title by a single point from Felipe Massa. So you could say his current team mate Alonso robbed Massa the 2008 title. This is definitely one of the reasons for the tension between the two Ferrari drivers in addition to the fact that Massa has been assigned to be the #2 driver.
