2010 BMW Championship Preview

The third of four FedEx Cup playoff events on the PGA Tour schedule is the BMW Championship. The tournament was established in 2007, with Tiger Woods winner in the first year and 09, while in 08 the trophy has won by Columbian Camilo Villegas. The BMW Championship is a professional golf tournament opened to the top 70 FedEx Cup points leaders following the Deutsche Bank Championship. This event is played west to the Chicago area at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club, ranked 18th out of 51 courses in difficulty on the PGA TOUR last year.

Bookmakers are rating Tiger Woods the main favorite to win and he is currently available at $7. These odds are not worth the punt especially knowing that the American is still struggling to find form after his well-known personal troubles earlier this year. I would not be surprised if Tiger does not finish in the top 10 as this is a strong field.

Jim Furyk, last year’s runner up, is consistent. Furyk is a $21 chance to win and he is very motivated to get a solid result here as he wants to grab a spot in the Playoffs finale at East Lake. Furyk has good chances to finish in top 10, or maybe even win.

Matt Kuchar won the U.S. Amateur at Cog Hill and he is a $23 chance to win on the PGA Tour here as well. After three top 10 finishes in a row in his last three events played, Matt is one of the safest bets of the week to finish top 10. This can be had at $2.45.

Adam Scott is a $21 chance to win and he’s recorded three top-10s in his last four Playoff starts. The 30-year-old Australian ranks 4th in Eagles (Holes per) on the PGA Tour.

Geoff Ogilvy impressed at the TPC Boston, winning the SBS Championship in a convincing way. Geoff has had average results at Cog Hill but his current form puts him among the favorites at very good odds. Ogilvy is a $41 chance to win the second title in a row in just two weeks and for sure that offers some value.

Verdict: Kuchar to finish in top 10 at $2.45.
