The Deutsche Bank Championship is a PGA Tour golf tournament held every year on Labor Day weekend at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) of Boston in Norton, Massachusetts, USA. The total “purse” for this year is $7.5m and hefty $1.35m goes to the winner. The tournament started seven years ago and has been part of the FedEx Cup playoffs since 2007. The first winner of the tournament was Australian Adam Scott. Since then Vijay Singh won twice and Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson also some of the big names to have won.

The TPC course is not a difficult one being ranked 37th out of 51 courses in difficulty on the PGA Tour last year. The field however is very tough with 23 tournament winners this year on the Tour to play for another title, including four Australians. In total there are 12 Aussie golfers competing at TPC and the Australian contingent is the second largest after USA.

Adam Scott, the first winner of the tournament seven years ago, was impressive last week at The Barclays and if continues to play like that he could win the title here for the second time in his career. Adam comes with a great odds currently sitting at $34.

Jason Day is the other Australian who can win here, and he is a $51 chance to win. Jason also looks in solid form, with T22 at Bridgestone, T10 at the PGA Championship and T5 last week at The Barclays.

American Jim Furyk is known for consistently playing at top level and he ranks 8th in Money Leaders on the PGA Tour. Furyk finished 1st on the 2010 Tour twice – at Transitions Championship and Verizon Heritage. Also the American finished T6 at World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, T7 at Wells Fargo Championship and T9 at The Greenbrier Classic. He also likes to play at TPC and has two top 10 finished in last two years. Jim is a $29 chance to win the title.

Another American who looks to be one of the top favorites this week is the defending champion Steve Stricker. He’s been playing amazingly with eight career top-10s in 13 Playoffs events. Stricker finished 1st on the PGA Tour twice in 2010 and has seven top-10s. Steve is a $13 chance to win the trophy for the second year in a row.

Verdict: With those odds, bet on Adam Scott to win.
