Despite a good overall clay courts record with 193 won and 118 lost matches, the 78th ranked Aussie Peter Luczak hasn’t played his best on clay this year, winning only 7 of 20 matches. Today he will face the Spanish clay court specialist, Pere Riba, ranked 81 in the world and with a 210/147 overall clay courts record. His season so far has been great winning 30 of 43 matches. The 22-year-old Spaniard won the Bytom clay court Challenger one week before Wimbledon and managed to defeat Frenchman Marc Gicquel in straight sets in the first round of the French Open.
It will be a tough task for Peter. He was competing yesterday in the Bundesliga for his team, Halle, to defeat German Dieter Kindlmann 6-7, 7-6, 11-9 and then took a flight from Halle to Bastad, Sweden. He will probably be a bit exhausted before the first round clash with Riba. Peter would need fresh legs before a clay court battle, especially when playing against clay expert. Riba will know Peter is coming to the match with tired legs and will try to make him run.
