Ferrer is the clear favorite in this semi-final but it’s all about betting against Robin Soderling here, who really has looked awful in his two first matches. Soderling has reached this stage of the tournament only because of his tenacity in front of home crowd. Ferrer has the ability to expose the heavy movement of Soderling. If the Swede won’t serve better than 55% against Ferrer, he could be even trashed and embarrassed by the Spanish clay court specialist.
No matter how anxious Robin would be, how bad he would want to win this match, his totally unimpressive form, way too passive play and the heavy legged look won’t help him against David. Soderling won 6 matches of 8 against Ferrer but the Spaniard won 2 of the last 3 clay meetings, one of them here at Bastad and almost surprised the Swede on grass at The All England Club a few weeks ago, keeping him 5 sets on court and exhausting him before the quarter final against Rafael Nadal. Hard to imagine Robin Soderling winning here if he won’t change completely and it seems the Swede is out of fuel for such a fast improvement.
Verdict: Ferrer to win.
