Is this an Aussie week at The Greenbrier Classic?...

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010 posted by Dorian

The golf world returns to White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia with The Greenbrier Classic, the PGA Tour’s newest event as part of the FedExCup Series and which will be played at The Old White Course.

The Old White Course was in its former times the place where for some of the greatest golfers in the world came to play, including Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson. Most of the modern day players have never played The Greenbrier in competition and this can be an opportunity for the Aussies to achieve something special.

The Australian lefty Greg Chalmers secured his next year PGA Tour card sharing the 4th place at RBC Canadian Open. Greg is on fire lately, being 18th in putting, fifth in scrambling and third in sand saves. The Aussie, nicknamed “snake”, has seven professional wins so far has finished T12 two weeks ago at the John Deere. He has eight consecutive rounds of par or better running and is a $67 chance to win the Greenbrier Classic.

Marc Leishman is an Australian professional golfer who has already won more than $1 million and one of his two top 10 finishes this season was at the beginning of this month at AT&T National, sharing the seventh place. Mark is 11th in Average Going for it Shot Distance, is 18th in Average Distance to Hole After Tee Shot, is 20th in Approaches from 50-75 yards and is a $67 chance to win the Greenbrier Classic.

Stuart Appleby has won eight times on the PGA Tour and was quite successful lately with a T18 finish at Reno-Tahoe Open and a T11 finish at AT&T National this month. The Aussie is the 16th in the world in Career Money Leaders with over $24 million and kept his Total Eagles and Total Birdies records. Stuart, who featured in the top ten of the Official World Golf Rankings 6 years ago, is an $81 chance to win the Greenbrier Classic.

Rod Pampling’s best finish on the PGA Tour this year is T15th at the John Deere Classic less than three weeks ago and just one week later he has finished T21 at Reno-Tahoe Open, showing a solid game. The Aussie is a $101 chance to win the Greenbrier Classic.

Matthew Goggin has five professional wins in his career but lately is completely out of shape, not being able to survive the halfway cut in any of the three events he played this month. The Aussie made the cut only six times in twenty tournaments this season and three times in last 13 PGA Tour events. It is hard to believe Mark will be able to raise his form too much this week and is a $201 chance to win the Greenbrier Classic.

David Lutterus made the cut just once in his last 9nine PGA Tour tournaments played. David is a $501 chance to win the Greenbrier Classic.
