Jeff Overton, who held the overnight lead, was still two ahead prior to starting his third round firing a four-under par 66 to hold three-shot lead at Greenbrier Classic. Jeff seeks his first PGA title but the low rounds showed him that his lead if far from safe. Overton overcame two early bogeys, made six birdies over his final 11, shooting 31 on the back nine of the Old White course on Saturday but didn’t come close to matching the 62 he shot Friday, which was his best round of the year.

D.A. Points is alone in second at 15 under and he also seeks his first win. He made ten birdies and no bogeys over his first 16 holes and had a chance to become the fifth player to shoot 59 on Tour. The 33-year-old didn’t do it because he bogeyed the 17th hole. Points, who ranks 117th in the FedExCup standings, had a good time Saturday, overcoming his career low, a 63 shot in the second round of the Reno-Tahoe Open.

Two shots further back from Points is Bo Weekley, who shot a 67 to reach 13 under and to follow up his 63 Friday. Bo birdied his last two holes on Saturday to stay in race for the title, trailing by five. Six strokes off the pace after third round there are 3 Americans, J.B. Holmes, Jimmy Walker, Jonathan Byrd and Zimbabwe’s Brendon de Jonge. Holmes flirted with an historic round of 59 but failed to join Al Geiberger, Chip Beck, David Duval and Paul Goydos – the only golfers to card a 59 on the US PGA history.

Half of the Australians who survived the halfway cut are in top 18 after third round. Top placed is Stuart Appleby, he fired a 65, his best round this week, to move within seven shots of the leader and to share the eighth spot. He is followed by Aron Price, Marc Leishman and Aaron Baddeley two shots behind, and they share the 18th place.

Mathew Goggin scored a 66 and with a total of 202 shares the 36th place, while Cameron Percy and John Senden are one shot behind, sharing the 47th place in the standings after third round. Worst placed Australian but still with a good result is Greg Chalmers, who managed his best round of the week on Saturday, posting a 67 and ranked T67.
