Wellington Phoenix vs Sydney FC : A-League 2010-...

Thursday, September 9th, 2010 posted by Dane (Comments)

Wellington will need to shake off consecutive away losses to Brisbane Roar and Perth Glory if they hope to continue their unbeaten run at Westpac Stadium – currently standing at 21 games – when a weak and wounded Sydney side rolls into town on Saturday night.

Star forward Paul Ifill has been in sound form for the Phoenix so far this season, but some of his big name teammates such as All Whites pair Leo Bertos and Tim Brown have been below par over the opening five rounds. Coach Ricki Herbert will be hoping for an all-round performance across the park from his team as they search for a valuable three points.

To say things are going from bad to worse for Sydney is an understatement. Not only are they bottom of the ladder and without a win after five games, but now marquee midfielder Nick Carle is in serious doubt for Saturday’s clash with a toe injury. Already without star striker Alex Brosque (ankle) and captain Terry McFlynn (hamstring), the sky blues attacking-depth will be stretched to the hilt if Carle is forced to withdraw.

Expect a determined Sydney outfit to fight hard in the hope of taking something away from their trip across the Tasman. However, Wellington will be kicking themselves if they fail to win this one. Back the Phoenix to win at 2.02.
