Tsvetana Pironkova was not at her greatest level of play in first round against Malek but managed to win the match and her top 30 spot is one step closer. The Bulgarian girl used her best weapon, the backhand, a lot in the match and she will do it again against Rodionova too. Also her drop shots could neutralize the Aussie.

The 16-year-old unranked Basak Eraydin broke Rodionova twice in the second set and she was leading 3-2 but this easy 1st round draw could be misleading because most players cannot focus against a weak opponent. This could be dangerous for Anastasia because she cannot really feel the tournament after such an easy match, and against Pironkova will come to the match guns blazing.

The Aussie managed to win only 56% points on her 1st serve and the Turkish teenager seven break points opportunities. If she continues with these stats today it will be Tsveti’s time for the win. The young Bulgarian will play clever and try to take advantage of Anastasia’s lack of form shown lately. This match could be tight but I will bet on Pironkova to prevail.
