Just two days ago Jarmila Groth’s team Kansas City Explorers won the World TeamTennis (WTT) title. She got a bit lucky though as she was supposed to play Serena Williams until the American hurt her foot and was out for the short WTT season. Still Jarka beat Maria Sharapova 5-0 and captured the team’s first World TeamTennis title. The Australian was named WTT Finals MVP after dominating each opponent and winning all her three sets played in the final.
Anna-Lena Groenefeld is completely out of shape lately and she is looking for a new coach. The German was trashed in her last two matches, 6-3 6-0 by Melanie Oudin at Wimbledon and 6-2 6-1 against unknown Anna Floris at Cuneo. Anna-Lena played in seven tournaments this year and she was able to reach at least second round only in two of them.
Now she is meeting an Aussie who is on fire and is coming from very good performances at last two Grand Slam tournaments, reaching 4th round at Wimbledon and French Open. The German is too weak at the moment to stand a chance against Jarmila.
Verdict: Jarmila Groth to win.
