Rakeback

What is Rakeback?

Before we dwell into rakeback it is first necessary to understand how poker rooms make money.

A poker room deducts a small amount from every pot in cash games, and for arranging tournaments the poker room deducts an entry fee. This is called rake.

Poker rooms make a lot of money from the rake the players contribute with. Naturally the more a player plays the more rake the room earns. It does not matter if the player loses of wins, however it is more advantageous for a poker room to have good players as they are likely to keep playing more, and raking more. A good semi-casual player can easily contribute $2000 or more per month to the poker room. Now imagine a poker room with 50,000 players.. well you do the math.

A few years back someone came up with the idea to reward good players so that they would not leave the poker room and go play elsewhere, and called it rakeback. It works a bit similar to cashback or comps in traditional casinos. As more and more poker rooms were established rakeback became more and more popular and today many online poker players are getting rakeback. The amount of rakeback varies from room to room but it is usually around 30% of the rake. Now imagine that a player has contributed $2000 to the poker room in any particular month… normally they would not get anything back, but with rakeback they would get $600 back – lose or win! So a skilled player can win money from playing and earn even more with rakeback. It’s a pretty sweet deal!

It is free money for you and all you have to do look around for rakeback to get it! There are however some poker networks that do not allow rakeback, so you do need to know how and where to look. Also rakeback deals are only available through partner sites as the poker rooms do not promote rakeback.

Our favourite 3D poker room PKR has generously agreed to give 30% rakeback to Aussie Punters! All you have to do is register via this rakeback link, and enter the code APRB30 when asked, to qualify.

It does not matter if you are a newbie or a seasoned poker player, you can now enjoy PKR’s loyalty program and get rakeback. Read our PKR review here.
