Previously known as the Sandown Cup, this race is full history. When first run in 1888 the race was known as the Williamstown Cup as it was held in Williamstown. The name changed to Sandown Cup in 1964 and the race was transferred to Sandown Racecourse the following year.
Notable Sandown winners include Light Fingers, Baghdad Note, Arwon, and Brave Chief winning in record time of 2.24.31.
