William Reed Stakes
The Australia Stakes was formerly known as the William Reid Stakes and then again reverted back to William Reid Stakes. William Reid owned a number of Australian racehorses in the early 1900s including Uncle Sam, who won the Caulfield Cup in 1912 and again in 1914, and finished third in the Melbourne Cup in 1912.
